THE 2024/25 MEETINGS CALENDAR
The meetings were allocated at the AGM on the same basis as last year.
Two members per month with the new budgets being £100 more than previous years
in order to whittle down the £5600 cash balance, which is
no longer needed as all meetings now come in on budget.
THE GASS NO-WINE RULE RETURNS HAVING BEEN NEGLECTED OF LATE
NEW RULE ON MEETING DRINKS - WAS EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 2024
To avoid the repetitious issue of members ordering fine wines without paying for them
it was decided by a majority to REMOVE WINE ALTOGETHER from the GASS bill.
In future members may order beers, single spirits and soft drinks on the GASS tab.
All WINES, DOUBLES, SHERRY AND SPECIAL DRINKS MUST BE PAID FOR IN CASH BY THE MEMBER.
This is not being 'girlie', this is because several members drink little or nothing at meetings,
and while they do not object to house level wines at around £20-25 they do object to wines at £60 a bottle.
High priced wines (and specialty drinks) have been the bane of meetings budgets for years.
IF YOU WANT WINE - JUST ORDER IT AND PAY FOR IT.
The programme is set to put pub more pub meetings in the quiet winter months and more of the bigger events in Spring and Summer. It is NOT set in stone, neither are the events or teams.
IT'S JUST A MEETING
It's not rocket science. It's just a meeting. You are all entrepreneurs, put your mind to it!

WE DON'T NEED A THREE COURSE EVERY MEETING
When planning your meeting do consider that we need some meetings that are not full sit downs.
Consider a buffets or barbecue or a catering wagon, where we can stand and chat,
rather than being confined to a table.
Do consider arranging your meeting near your home as this automatically shares the travel distances fairly.
Swops are allowed, so if you swop partners, meeting types, months - just let me know to update the list

THE NEW WAY OF ORGANISING MEETINGS
As unanimously agreed at the AGM we split into pairs and arrange a meeting each, 22 members, 11 pairs, 11 meetings. You have your budget and if you go over, deliberately or accidentally, the members simply cough up. If it is deliberate and planned then the members pay a pre-agreed surcharge or, if its your fuck up on the night, members chuck into a kitty to cover the overspend.
Annual Budget: £40 per head per month. 22 members = £10,560
In the words of Ron Price - the £40 is the cost of membership - not the cost of the meeting
Entertainment, Food, Beers & Single Spirits go on the GASS bill.
Anything else (including wine with the meal) members buy themselves.
If a meeting is expected to be expensive then a surcharge will be announced
prior to the meeting by email and whatsapp.
If you don't want to pay the surcharge then don't attend the meeting.

ABOUT GASS
The Gentleman's Ale Sampling Society was formed in 1982 and started life as 20 blokes getting together on the first Tuesday of every month to have a beer and invest a little money on the stockmarket. Invest being a relative term, maybe just 'lose' money on the stockmarket might be a better description. After one share crash or another the point of GASS changed to become simply a good excuse for the guys to do something different every month, as long as it was fun and as long as it also involved beer and food.
Having been doing it now for 41 years we must be doing something right. This website is for our members. It tells us what we are doing next and it reminds us of what we did last month and the months before. This is a new site started in 2018. If you want to see the old site go to www.gass.org.uk for some real history. That site goes back to 2006.
